Examples

Optimising a tutorial title

Input
Next.js 15 Crash Course - Build a SaaS in 2 Hours (66 characters)
Output
'Optimal length' badge — fits in both desktop and mobile search results.

A keyword-rich, specific title around 60 characters is the sweet spot for click-through rate.

Indexable chapter list

Input
00:00 Intro · 02:15 Setup · 09:40 Routing · 28:50 Auth · 45:00 Deploy
Output
Chapter block rendered into the description, with the required 00:00 first chapter.

YouTube converts the chapter block into clickable timestamps in the progress bar and surfaces it in Google Search results.

About this tool

YouTube SEO Builder is a one-page dashboard for the four pieces of metadata that drive YouTube's search and recommendation engine: the title, the description, the chapter timestamps and the tag list. Rather than juggling four separate fields in YouTube Studio, you fill each in once and copy a single, well-formatted description plus a comma-separated tag list straight into the upload form.

The title field shows a live length gauge against the 100-character limit, calling out titles under 50 characters as too short and over 70 as likely to truncate on mobile. The chapter builder enforces the 00:00 first-chapter rule that YouTube's documentation requires for chapters to appear as clickable timestamps, and the tag builder caps the combined tag string at the 500-character limit that YouTube enforces. Nothing leaves the browser — the assembled text is copied to your clipboard.

How to use

  1. Write an optimised title

Aim for 50–70 characters. The gauge shows 'Optimal length' in that band and warns when over 70 (likely mobile truncation).

  2. Draft the description blocks

Fill in the Video Summary, optional Sponsor / CTA, and Social Links. The two summary lines show above the fold in YouTube — make them count.

  3. Add chapter timestamps

Add the first chapter at 00:00 — YouTube will not index timestamps without it. Use mm:ss for short videos and hh:mm:ss for long ones; the list is sorted automatically.

  4. Build a tag list

Type tags separated by commas (or paste with commas). Duplicates are ignored and the running 500-character limit is enforced as you add.

  5. Copy to YouTube Studio

Use Copy Full for the assembled description (with chapter and social sections) and Copy Tags for the comma-separated keyword block.

Use cases

Launching a new video

Build the full metadata package in one sitting — title, description, chapters, tags — and paste it into YouTube Studio.

Republishing an old upload

Refresh titles, descriptions and tags to give an underperforming video a second wind.

Podcast show notes

Re-use the description output as podcast episode notes; chapter timestamps translate cleanly to chapter markers.

Multi-language versions

Translate the intro, sponsor and social blocks per locale while keeping the tag list as English canonical keywords.

Common mistakes

Mistake:Writing a title longer than 70 characters.

Fix:Mobile search truncates aggressively. Aim for 50–70 characters with the keyword near the start.

Mistake:Skipping the 00:00 first chapter.

Fix:YouTube will not parse your timestamps as chapters without a 00:00 cue — the tool warns when you try to remove it.

Mistake:Stuffing the tag list with every conceivable keyword.

Fix:YouTube ignores stuffed tags. Use a small set of specific, relevant keywords and rely on the title and description for ranking.

Mistake:Putting links on the first two description lines.

Fix:Those lines are the most visible. Lead with the value the video delivers — links, sponsor and CTAs belong below.
