About WHOIS / RDAP

RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern replacement for WHOIS.

  • Uses JSON format (machine-readable)
  • Standardized query protocol
  • Supports internationalized domain names
  • Better privacy controls

Examples

Check expiry before renewal

Input
example.com
Output
Registrar · created/updated/expiry events · nameservers

Use event dates to schedule renewal before the registry deletes the name.

About this tool

WHOIS Lookup uses the DevTools backend RDAP pipeline with IANA bootstrap, returning normalized registrar, event dates, status, nameservers, DNSSEC, and abuse contacts.

RDAP is the modern replacement for legacy WHOIS port-43 text. Data is fetched live from the appropriate registry or registrar server.

How to use

  1. Enter a domain

Paste example.com or a full URL — it is normalized to the registrable domain.

  2. Review RDAP summary

Check expiry, registrar, status codes, and nameservers.

Use cases

Transfer verification

Confirm nameserver and status fields after a registrar migration.

Abuse contact lookup

Find registrar abuse email for reporting phishing on a domain you do not control.

Common mistakes

Mistake:WHOIS privacy hiding registrant.

Fix:RDAP may redact personal data under GDPR — registrar and technical contacts may still appear.
