About this game

Memory Match is the classic concentration game played with a twist of modern polish: every card starts face down and each turn flips exactly two. Matching faces stay revealed, a mismatch flips back after a beat — and the whole game is a race against your own memory. Clear the board in as few moves as you can; a star rating marks truly efficient runs.

Three board sizes cover every mood: 4×3 (six pairs) for a quick warm-up, the classic 4×4 (eight pairs), and a demanding 6×6 with eighteen pairs across 36 cards. Three Unicode card themes — fruits, animals and symbols — change the faces without changing the rules, and each grid size keeps its own best result (moves and time) so chasing a 6×6 record never touches your 4×4 personal best.

The design is honest about time: the clock starts on your first flip, not when the page loads, and it stops accruing while the tab is hidden — switching away to answer a message never costs you seconds. Results persist in your browser's local storage per grid size, alongside a play counter and your theme choice. There is no account and no server; "Reset saved data" wipes every stored record instantly.

Under the hood the deck is built by a pure, deterministic engine: an injected random number generator shuffles duplicated faces with Fisher–Yates, which makes every deal reproducible and every best score trustworthy.

How to use

  1. Pick a board

Choose 4×3, 4×4 or 6×6 and optionally a card theme — a fresh deck is dealt immediately.

  2. Flip two cards

Tap or click any two face-down cards. Matching faces stay up; mismatches flip back after a moment.

  3. Remember and pair

Track where you saw each face. Every two-card turn counts as one move, even when nothing matches.

  4. Clear the board

Match all pairs to finish — the fewer moves and seconds, the more stars and the better your saved best.

Use cases

A genuine brain warm-up

Two minutes of Memory Match exercises working memory and spatial recall — a compact daily ritual on any device.

Play with kids

The 4×3 board is a fair fight between adult and child; emoji faces need no reading skill.

Focus reset between tasks

A 4×4 run is short enough to clear mental cache without sucking you into a session.

Fair time tracking

The timer only runs while the tab is visible, so your recorded time reflects play, not interruptions.

Common mistakes

Mistake:Flipping randomly when two candidates are known

Fix:Always replay a known pair first — every wasted turn also costs you the information of two new faces.

Mistake:Ignoring the move clock

Fix:Speed of flipping matters less than certainty; one extra glimpse beats one extra mismatch turn.

Mistake:Chasing the 6×6 record cold

Fix:Warm up on 4×4 — the big board rewards the same corner-first scanning habit you build there.
